A
lot is at stake every time mr. perfectionist takes the center-stage. The reason
being-
· The sheer
variety that an Aamir Khan movie provides.
When
a movie featuring srk or salman is announced ,the audience is able to create an
image about the movie even before watching the trailer. But with aamir,
uniqueness takes the front seat, every time.
Talaash
is not essentially a whodunit or a suspense thriller. It is a movie which has
elements of a suspense drama and it also strives to showcase the paranormal and
human connect and has a strong under-riding emotional current.
It
all begins with an accident involving the superstar Armaan Kapoor at sea face
road and the movie then digs deep into solving the above mentioned case as well
as solving the emotional problems attached with almost every character that
appears in the movie.
to
say that talaash gets everything going the right way for it isn't wrong at all
but it still fails to impress.
The movie is technically brilliant.
Cinematography by K.Mohanan is outstanding. Shot takings
and camera angles enhance the feel of the movie.
Ram Sampath has produced a fantastic background score
and an even more fantastic music album for the movie.
The script is fine.
The screenplay becomes sluggish trying to meander its
way through various sub-plots running parallel to the basic plot.
The movie fails to grip the audience. Though you get
hooked on for a while but the movie strands you midway. The suspense is so
weakly built that it can be guessed at the intermission only. (as was done by
many of the folks at the theater)
Reema
Kagti weaves emotions skillfully but leaves it half baked. Furthermore the
movie follows a linear path post interval, erasing out the possibility of
capitalizing on some of the superb subplots built in the 1st half.
(Though
the scene where aamir imagines how he could have saved his son and aamir's
accident scene are shot extremely well and are a sure shot to give the audience
some goosebumps)
Excel Entertainment yet again tries to dish out a
thriller with elements closely resembling to those seen in Kaarthik calling
Karthik.
Sadly those elements fail to impress in Talaash as well.
Aamir
Khan as inspector Shekhawat is strictly okay. we have seen better work from
Aamir.
Kareena
Kapoor's performance is below par.
Rani Mukerji steals the show with an absolutely mind
blowing performance. she plays her role with such restrain and maturity that
you just want her to stay on screen forever.
Nawazuddin Siddique. Well what do I say about this guy.
An award winning performance. Absolute genius.
So
yeah, despite majority of the positives, Talaash somehow fails to be what it
could have been. (Though it is still far better than the work of the other2
KHANS this year)
Overall,
TALAASH comes as a big disappointment. It turns out be just any other movie
rather than being AN AAMIR KHAN STARRER.
--2STARS--
Life of PI --involving a lesser known KHAN (Irrfan khan)
will provide for a better option to be present at the theaters.
